Where would you turn, if you were a teenager who had grown up in an orphanage or residential care and suddenly found yourself out on your own with no family, not much of a community, empty pockets, and an incomplete education? Pathways, of Mumbai, is doing cutting-edge work with this largely neglected population.

Kids who grow up in orphanage/residential care are uniquely at risk for crime, low educational and professional attainment, mental health issues, suicide, homelessness, and early mortality. Pathways comes alongside these young adults to transition them out of orphanages and towards bright futures.

Pathways does this in a couple of ways. The staff engage with kids before they hit the streets by providing life skills and career guidance. Once they are out on their own, each program participant has a case manager who helps them identify and reach their goals in the context of a warm, supportive relationship.  Pathways also provides a framework for peer mentorship and community connection.
